Pavel Steidl est né en 1961 à Rakovnik en Tchécoslovaquie. Il étudie au conservatoire de Prague avec les professeurs Milan Zelenka et Arnost Sadlik, et à l'Académie des Arts Musicaux sous la direction de Stepan Rak. En 1982, il remporte le 1er prix du concours de Radio France après son aîné Vladimir Mikulka
